Located 5 miles north of Sartell MN, 10 miles north of St. Cloud, MN
Welcome to our website. We are Carl & Janet Halverson from Rice, MN. We have been married since 1984!! As a family, we have enjoyed having pets as family members as we raised our six children, which includes 5 sons: Jake, Zach, Ty, Nate & Alex and 1 daughter: Courtney. We now have 2 beautiful granddaughters as well, Aurora and Emmy. Carl taught school for 39 years at Royalton High School and just retired in May of 2020. Janet was a stay at home mom as we raised our family and was formerly a Closing Manager for a local realtor in St Cloud until recently.
We have been breeding quality golden retrievers since 2015. We fell in love with the breed with our first golden Sadie and our 2nd golden Bailey was the start of Oh My Goldens. It has been so rewarding to share our love of goldens with so many wonderful families over the past 10 years. We consider it an honor, a big responsibility and more importantly a blessing that we don't take lightly. As mentioned on our home page our girls are family first, breeding dogs/program 2nd! They are loved and a cherished part of our family and we do not find them different homes once they are done having puppies and in retirement.
Our goal is to give others the opportunity to own a quality pet that excels in obedience and that has a temperament you would be proud of. Whether you need a hunting companion, a buddy for your small children to play with, a trained therapy dog, or just a cherished member of your family, we hope to deliver just that! Our goal is always to make the breed better. We dedicate ourselves to producing healthy, tested, smart and proven bloodlines! We pride ourselves in raising puppies that have a temperament many of our past and current families rave about!
Our puppies are family raised with much socialization and time spent with each puppy several times a day from birth on. During the first weeks of life beginning on the 3rd day, we perform 5 exercises for early neurological stimulation on each pup once a day. There is some great research on the benefits of this Bio Sensor or sometimes referred to as the Super Dog Program! In addition they get Early Scent Introduction, Daily handling exercises, Sound exposure (ex: vacuum, tools, guns, fireworks and more!), Introduction to grooming (ex: brushing, nail clipping, bathing etc). They also get beginning training which includes crate exposure/training, potty training and some introduction to learning simple commands too. Once families have chosen them, if names are known we begin using their names in our one on one sessions. They get exposed to children, people, toys, surfaces and other dogs on a regular basis. At 3-4 weeks they move from their whelping boxes to larger playpen areas. They get exposure to additional toys, surfaces as well as more types of stimulation. The pups have amazed us just how fast they are able to begin to understand the concept of litterbox training. At just 4 weeks old we have seen almost no accidents anywhere but in the litter tray on the side of the pen away from their eating and sleeping areas. Many of our pups are retrieving by the time they go home too and a favorite memory over the years was throwing a bird wing and watching a group of 4 puppies as they retrieved it together! Our pups come from great hunting lines, Champion Bloodlines, European Imported lines with success as therapy dogs, agility training etc! Parents have AKC registration, OFA testing and are genetic health tested as well. Puppies come with AKC registration paperwork, dew claws removed, dewormed multiple times, preventative treatment given to help against Coccidia, first vaccinations, vet checked twice, 5-star references with limited registration (full registration available upon approval for an additional fee). We are looking to add microchips to our program in 2025! Again, as breeders we strive to always continue to help make the breed better. We take much time, research, and energy in our process of thoughtfully and carefully choosing our sires. They must be AKC Registered, have the health testing we require, and most importantly the temperament we desire for our program!
During times when the weather is too cold for them to be outside our heated garage and entry/mud rooms become their home. We also have a huge outdoor playpen area for our summer litters to play in daily. We show many pics and videos as the litters are growing beginning from birth in their whelping box until they are ready for their new families. We have had families mention they are leery of breeders who never show where the puppies are raised and when the only pictures and videos they show are all taken outside, no matter the season. You will not find it that way with us and that is one reason people say they choose us. In addition we work with them in small groups of 2 or 3 as well as spending one on one time with them in the house or out in the yard. They all learn at an early age to excel at following their trainer and turn to make eye contact to see where they are supposed to be going. Every time that we change direction, we drop to our knees and give them praise as they follow us. We never chase them, and we work to teach them to follow us and come when called.
Depending on what you are looking for, if you let us know the physical or personality traits important to you, we will try our best to fit your needs. When you spend a little time alone with your chosen selection, you will see why we were not shocked to invest four times the dollar amount on our Bailey than we had on any of our previous family members. It wasn’t until we got our Bailey that we finally understood why people invest more in their family pets.
Before you take your puppy home you should be sure to bring a blanket to rub down their Mama and a stuffed animal to rub down littermates with. Taking home this scent with them helps greatly as they transition to their new homes and helps them not to feel so lonely. We also send you home with a sample of their current puppy food to prevent digestion problems. They should remain on puppy food the first year of their life. You will be sent home with your puppy’s vet records and our veterinarian's number in case you have any questions regarding your puppy. We also reserve the right to not hold a puppy’s deposit for someone who we feel may not be a good fit for one of our pups. We want our babies to go to the best homes possible!
When you choose one of our puppies it is not a one and done. We will always be available to answer questions or share any advice that may be helpful. We look forward to welcoming you into our OH MY GOLDEN Family, keeping in touch and hearing your stories and experiences with your new family member. That is one of the greatest rewards of this business!! 😊
